History

In 1951, Canada welcomed from West Germany - Bernhardt Sellka, his wife, eldest son Raymond, and his trade of cabinet making. Two years later Bernhardt, with the support and encouragement of his wife Elizabeth, purchased Quebec Wood Products Co. The fledgling company, located on Lamont Street in Montreal, provided excellence of quality products and service and so it thrived producing high-end home furnishings, kitchens, show rooms etc.

In 1960 a move to larger quarters in Ville-Emard allowed the services to expand. The distinctive high quality of the work was exemplified in every facet of their product. If it was made of wood the Quebec Wood Products name guaranteed distinction. This characteristic was recognized and sought by the Yukon's and North West Territories' exhibits at "Expo '67".

Bernhardt's youngest son Jeff became very interested in his father's business and his early apprenticeship accomplished its goal of developing and refining Jeff's talents. Jeff learned the necessary skills to imitate and keep the established standards of the family business. 1973 celebrated the birth of Sellka Wood Products Quebec Inc. The company blossomed and community involvement by Bernhardt Sellka became natural and important. He became a member of the Montreal Executive Association and the Montreal Board of Trade. In 1979 Jeff became a full working member of the company.

The Sellkas mourned the passing of Bernhardt in 1992 and Jeff continued in his father's footsteps until circumstances in the mid-nineties dictated closing the doors of the company.

Jeff and Marie's burgeoning family grew to eight and they decided that the country lifestyle, rather than city life, was more conducive to raising the children. They moved first to Ormstown and then out to the country proper. Jeff still serviced a few clients in Montreal while working full time at a local business. His love for wood and the talents instilled in his early life came alive once more and opportunity presented itself, Sellka Wood Reg'd. was again living and active.

The belief in excellence of workmanship, along with Marie's encouragement and support, was the driving force behind Jeff's business then and now. They had an office in Hinchinbrooke, and a shop in Franklin Centre and produced lovingly crafted woodwork.

After a few years in the country an opportunity arose to leave Quebec and head out west. After the decision to close the doors on the business, the family loaded up the vehicle and headed B.C. Once here Jeff found a job working at Holz Industries Inc., a trusted supplier of London Drugs millwork and saw an excellent opportunity. After a few years of loyal service he negotiated to become the owner of Holz Industries Inc. and continued his love for exceptional millwork. With three of his sons by his side, his family now proudly serves the residential and commercial community with high quality millwork.
